Court Development

The United States Court Tennis Preservation Foundation (USCTPF) supported the construction of the first Prince’s Court in 1997 and its replacement in 2022 at Westwood Country Club in Vienna, Virginia.

Through the efforts of committed donors and supporters, the court tennis community in the Washington, D.C. area first established Prince’s Court in 1997. When the court’s long-term viability was at risk, the community once again mobilized to construct a new facility, securing a bright future for the game in the region.

Charleston, SC

As previously reported, the Foundation is engaged in negotiations with a local group regarding a potential contribution toward the construction of a new facility in Charleston that will include both squash and court tennis. By leveraging the strong and sustained local interest in establishing a court, the donor funds currently available, and the full support of our Board, we are well positioned to achieve a favorable outcome in the long-standing Charleston Court Tennis (CCT) campaign to bring a court to the area.

In 2014, the Club collaborated with the United States Court Tennis Preservation Foundation (USCTPF) to raise funds aimed at improving the condition of the court, one of oly 11 in the United States. This effort resulted in a substantial renovation, which included upgraded lighting, fresh paint, and new netting.

This project addressed persistent leaks that had rendered the court tennis court, Racquets Court, and Squash Court 3 unplayable during rain and snowstorms. Upon completion, it also restored the facility’s ability to host national and international court tennis and racquets tournaments. As part of the renovation, the building’s owner established a permanent covenant on the tennis court and a twenty-five-year covenant on the racquets court.

From the current Charleston Court Tennis Project and the development of the new Westwood CC Court in Vienna VA, to the restoration of courts in Boston, Philadelphia and Newport, the Foundation works alongside donors and clubs to improve the condition and quality of courts throughout the country.

“The USCTPF is the cornerstone for the growth and development of Tennis in the United States. In addition to being the primary group promoting new courts in the U.S., the Foundation actively funds and supports programming for a multitude of groups within the game. Having been both a beneficiary of such programs and a director of programming, I feel uniquely qualified to speak about the Foundation's success. The future of Tennis in the United States will be closely correlated with the strength of the USCTPF.”
